Homemade ice cream with a touch of vanilla flavour, an easy recipe that does not require an ice cream machine.
100 g (1/2 metric cup) of white granulated sugar
a pinch of fine sea salt
250 ml (1 metric cup) of chilled whole milk*
500 ml (2 metric cups) of chilled cream 35%
5 ml (1 tsp) of vanilla extract
Before starting, place the milk and the cream in the freezer for about 5 min.
In a large mixing bowl, combine the sugar, the salt and the milk.
Stir until the sugar is dissolved completely.
Add the cream and the vanilla extract to the mixture and mix well, but make sure to not beat the cream.
Pour the mixture into an airtight container, and place it in the freezer.**
Freeze for minimum 4 hours.***
*This recipe requires min. 3% fat or whole milk.
**Place the empty airtight container in the freezer before starting making ice cream. It will help solidify the ice cream mixture faster. Avoid using deep containers since it could double the freezing time.
***Stir the mixture a few times during the first hour of freezing to spread the cold evenly.
